The immersive experience offered by role-playing games can’t be topped by any other video game genre. Leaving the beautiful world of your favorite RPG is always hard, but playing on a portable video game console lets to stay immersed from nearly any location. 1. The Legends of Heroes: Trails in the Sky

“The Legends of Heroes: Trails in the Sky” may share a lot of similarities with other Japanese RPGs, but it’s able to stand out due to its excellent characters. It only takes a few hours to completely fall in love with the main characters and their story, which makes it nearly impossible to put the game down until it is over.

2. Ys: The Oath of Felghana

The popular “Ys” series reached its pinnacle when “Ys: The Oath of Felghana” was released on the PSP in 2010. The streamlined combat system may have been designed to make the game more accessible to new fans, but it improved the experience for everyone. You could now focus entirely on the fast action sequences without worrying the clunky item management system.

3. Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth

“Valkrie Profile: Lenneth” had the ability to transport you to a mythical world thanks to its beautiful graphics and soundtrack. The quick combat took a long time to master, but you were rewarded with an excellent experience if you did not get discouraged. The uniquely strange story will keep you hooked for nearly 40 hours.

4. Monster Hunter Freedom Unite

This was easily the biggest game in the widely popular “Monster Hunter” when it was released. You were tasked with taking down huge monsters using strategic attacks and tactics. The extreme difficulty may turn off some players, but there is just something exhilarating about taking down a massive monster with three of your friends.

5. X-Men Legends II: Rise of the Apocalypse

Every comic book fan was overjoyed at the chance to take down enemies as their favorite superhero, and “X-Men Legends II: Rise of the Apocalypse” did not disappoint. Customizing the capabilities of the 22 playable characters created a fun game that was tough to put down. This was also one of the few PSP games that saw its graphics and gameplay rival its PS2 counterpart.

6. Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions

The original “Final Fantasy Tactics” is widely considered to be one of the best strategy role-playing games of all-time when it was released on the original PlayStation, but fans in the United States were forced to play with Japanese controls and a terribly translated story. That was all rectified when “Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions” came out on the PSP nearly 10 years later.

7. Half-Minute Hero

RPGs are traditionally known for their long overarching stories, but “Half-Minute Hero” completely changed everything we know about role-playing games. All of the game’s missions were designed to be completed in only 30 seconds. The ability to make significant progress in only a few minutes was new to the genre, which helped make it one of the best PSP RPGs.

8. Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep

There are usually only a few gameplay differences when you switch between playable characters in video games, but that is not the case with “Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep.” While you travel the same world, all three characters encounter different enemies and unlock separate story cutscenes. Combining this revolutionary idea with beautiful graphics makes this a game every RPG fan must play.

9. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII

“Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII” provides an interesting backstory to one of the best video games of all-time. While learning more about Zack Flair, Sephiroth and Aerith is enough to entice any “Final Fantasy” fan, this game features one of the best stories every told in a video game. It also features the best graphics ever found on the PSP.

10. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable

It is simply impossible to not get consumed by every second of “Persona 3 Portable.” The game was an instant classic when it was released for the PS2, and the experience was only improved for the PSP thanks to the new battle system. Juggling the life of a teenager that must form relationships at school while destroying creatures at night makes you deeply care about the characters in the hauntingly beautiful story of “Persona 3 Portable”.
